Start your journey with us

Accessing supported living in Washington means partnering with the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA). We'll walk alongside you every step of the way — starting with the very first call.

Five steps to getting started

1

Connect with DDA

Call the Washington Developmental Disabilities Administration at 1-800-737-0617. Tell them you or your family member is interested in supported living services. Eligibility is based on a qualifying developmental disability that was identified before age 18.

💡 Not sure if you qualify? Call us first — we're happy to help you figure out next steps before you contact DDA.
2

Complete a Needs Assessment

A DDA case manager will meet with you to understand your needs, goals, and current situation. They'll determine the appropriate level of support and which Medicaid waiver you may be eligible for (typically the Core Waiver for supported living).

3

Choose Access Living as Your Provider

In Washington, you have the right to choose your own provider. Tell your DDA case manager that you'd like to work with Access Living — they will initiate the referral process.

💡 You can change providers at any time. If you're currently with another agency and want to explore switching, contact us and we'll guide you through it.
4

Plan Together

Once we receive your referral, we'll sit down with you, your family, and your support team to understand your goals and begin developing or implementing your Individual Support Plan (ISP). This is your plan — we build it around your life, not the other way around.

5

Begin Living Your Life

We carefully match you with a Direct Support Professional who's a great fit for you — your interests, your schedule, your personality. Services begin, and we check in regularly to make sure everything is working well and adjust as your needs change.

Not sure where to start?

We'd love to have a conversation — no paperwork, no commitment. Just a real talk about your situation and how we might be able to help.

We can help you understand the DDA eligibility process, what services might look like for your situation, and what questions to ask.

Frequently asked questions

Who is eligible for supported living services?
Adults (18+) with a qualifying developmental disability — such as intellectual disability, autism, cerebral palsy, or epilepsy — that was identified before age 18 may be eligible for DDA services including supported living. DDA determines eligibility through an assessment process.
Does it cost anything?
Supported living services are funded through Washington's Medicaid waiver programs for eligible individuals. You will pay your own rent, food, and personal expenses as you would in any home — but the support services themselves are typically covered. We can help you understand what to expect.
Can I choose where I live?
Yes. In supported living, you choose your own home — an apartment or house that you own, rent, or lease. You can live alone or with up to three other people. Access Living supports you in that home; we don't place you in a group setting.
How many hours of support will I receive?
Support hours are determined by your DDA assessment and your Individual Support Plan. They can range from just a few hours a month all the way up to 24/7 support, depending on your individual needs.
Can I switch to Access Living if I'm already with another provider?
Yes — you have the right to choose and change your provider at any time. Contact your DDA case manager and let them know you'd like to transfer to Access Living. We can also help you navigate this transition. Reach out to us and we'll walk you through it.
